Things to see and do

  • Los Tres Ojos de Agua (The Three Eyes of Water): This remarkable cave complex has three turquoise lagoons on three different levels. Each lagoon is fed by an underground river and is surrounded by awe-inspiring stalactites, stalagmites and tropical vegetation.

  • The Amber Museum: The museum is a treasure trove of jewellery found on the Amber Coast (northern coast). 

  • Swim with dolphins in Manatí Park: This spectacular theme park, near Punta Cana, also includes a zoo, beautiful gardens and exotic animals.

  • Cabritos Island: There is a national park here that is home to some of the most dangerous form of wildlife including a preserve of the wild American crocodile.

  • Water activities: Sosúa beach is famous for windsurfing and diving. The underwater world here has reefs, wrecks, caverns and abundant marine life. Other great spots include Cabrera and La Caleta National Underwater Park. White-water rafting is available on the Río Yaque del Norte in Jarabacoa. 


Wining & Dining

The Dominican Republic is considered the breadbasket of the Caribbean given that it grows, farms and catches domestically almost everything that is served on tables everywhere, from five-star restaurants to sidewalk cafes. The saying goes on the island ‘if it is on the plate, it’s gonna be fresh.’

Seafood is the main fare on the island and so you would do well to order up a platter of the local catch with a few Presidentes (the local beer) on the side.

Local dishes included mero (sea bass), chillo (red snapper), carite (kingfish), lambí (conch), camarones (shrimp), lobster and pulpo (octopus). For dessert, the island is famous for its oblong mangos, which can be enjoyed eaten out of hand or savoured in a delicious beverage through a straw.

Entertainment and nightlife

The nightclubs on the Islands are where thousands of tourists and locals converge to dance on the beats of live bands or DJ's. If you visit a Dominican-owned bar, they will usually play Merengue or Bachata music. Free drinks are available in casinos if you take part in Black Jack, Roulette, and Poker.

  • Guavaberry Country Club: One of Dominican Republic's newest golf course, it is located at the luxurious all-inclusive Coral Costa Caribe Resort & Casino.
