Soufrire

The former capital of Saint Lucia during the French rule, Soufrire is today a major tourist destination thanks to its various attractions including a "drive-in" volcano, the Diamond Botanical Gardens and historic mineral baths. The beach lovers can find solace in the nearby black sand beaches of Anse Chastanet to the north and Malgretout to the south. The town is also reputed to be the birthplace of Napoleon's wife, the Empress Josephine de Beauharnais.
