St Martin

Things to see and do on St Martin

• Marigot: The capital of St Martin is especially worth visiting on market day, when the harbour side comes alive with vendors selling everything from home-brewed liquors to cinnamon, nutmeg and chilli peppers. St. Martin is action-packed but also laid back. Orient Beach, Caribbean’s best-known clothing optional strand, is also a premier destination for water sports such as windsurfing and jet skiing and parascending on a boat-towed parachute.
• Loterie Farm: The visit will prove to be an adventure with a difference. Here a former slave trail will lead you upward to breadfruit trees that trace their roots to plants brought to the Caribbean aboard the H.M.S. Bounty. You can take a trail leading to Pic Paradise, the island’s highest point.  
• Butterfly Farm: The farm is a fluttering paradise of colourful butterflies such as the Cambodian wood nymph and the Brazilian blue morpho.
• Mont Vernon Plantation: Take a journey into the history of rum production and gain an insight into an era gone by.

Dining in St Martin

St Martin has one of the largest collections of restaurants in the Caribbean. In fact with more than 300 restaurants, St Martin is considered to be the dining capital of the Caribbean. Besides, it also has numerous options for casual dining. Some of the best eateries are in the village of Grand Case. There are a number of fine eateries that dot the beachside but you must try eating in the lolos, a series of wooden shacks overlooking the sea.

Entertainment and nightlife in St Martin

St Martin has a wide array of night clubs, restaurants, and late-night shopping options. The discos attract both the locals and the tourists. The many live-music clubs on the island play the best Caribbean music. Some of the island's hot spots worth checking out include the Indiana Beach, Greenhouse, News Music Cafe, Amnesia, and Cheri's Cafe. The island's nine casinos are also a major attraction.

There is just one golf course on the island and it is located in the Dutch side, St. Maarten.
