Things to see and do on the islands

  • Water activities: The islands offer beautiful spots for diving and other underwater activities. The best spots are found off the Turks, along West Caicos and Provo.
  • Providenciales: Also known as Provo, Providenciales is the hub for all tourist activity. The main beach is Grace Bay, a 12 mile stretch of velvety sand. There are many inland lakes where you can spot many rare birds.
  • Conch Bar: You can hire a local guide and venture into this settlement where you'll find a number of caves with limestone formations and resident bat populations. You can also browse through the recent archaeological excavations and Lucayan artefacts dating back more than 1,200 years.
  • Grand Turk: Take a tour of the town and admire the several restored churches and the collections of the Turks and Caicos National Museum.
  • Columbus Passage: The passage, which separates Grand Turk and South Caicos is a wonderful place to watch humpback whales from January to March as they make their way to their winter breeding grounds.

Wining & Dining

The widest assortment of quality dining options is available in the tourist hub of Providenciales. You can dine in laid-back casual waterfront patios or in exquisite restaurants. There is an astonishing selection of world cuisines available besides local favourites and delightful imports from other island nations.

Dining is generally a casual affair and so you do not have to worry about dress codes at most restaurants. Reservations are not usually required although they are advisable to ensure a spot for an important dinner, especially at the more popular locations.

Nightlife

The nightlife is mainly concentrated in Providenciales. You can head to the beach shacks for beer or rum accompanied by good music. There are two major casinos that offer roulette, blackjack, craps, and baccarat and are open from 1pm to 5am. There are many beachside lounges or bars from where you can watch the sunset as also sports bars where you can watch sports on big-screen plasma TVs, listen to music, or dine on island fare or international cuisine.

Golfing

  • Provo Golf Club: This is considered to be one of the top ten courses in the Caribbean.
  • Waterloo Golf Course: This is a 9 hole, par 54 course built in the grounds of the Office of the Governor of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
